Former CEO involved in major employment dispute

One of the main reasons for the laws governing employment practices is to protect workers from superiors who abuse their power in the workplace. It is disheartening to consider, but these abuses still persist in many companies in California and elsewhere throughout the country. Recently, a lawsuit was filed against a former CEO and major political supporter, alleging a serious employment dispute.

According to court documents, a woman alleges that William Parfet, a formidable business leader and chairman of his state's political action committee, engaged in gender discrimination, harassment and retaliation. She also states that she was wrongfully terminated from her position as a consultant at MPI Research. These allegations were made after the woman was fired in 2014 during a child support dispute with Parfet.

Although both married to other partners, the woman gave birth to two of Parfet's children in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Under threat of adverse consequences including termination, the woman alleges that Parfet demanded sexual relations from her when they traveled for business. Although he initially agreed to provide financial support for their children, Parfet ultimately refused to provide financial or emotional support, and he would not publicly acknowledge his children.

Anyone who is facing a hostile work environment, employment dispute or unlawful termination in California may benefit from consulting an attorney. Attorneys who are experienced in litigating employment law are typically well-versed in the state's latest employment and labor laws. This type of attorney will be in the best position to give counsel on the various legal options available if an injured part wishes to pursue a civil lawsuit.
